Abstract:

Internet Addiction is a serious public health problem around the world. The number of global internet users has reaching more than 2.3 billion in 2011. Any addictive behavior may be the result of psychiatric symptoms. Researchers have shown that interpersonal difficulty found in people with Borderline Personality Traits is associated with internet Addiction. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explain the structural model of the relationship between Borderline Personality Traits, interpersonal problems and Addiction to the internet. The study was correlational and the statistical population of the study included all residents of the Karaj city in the fall of 1394, of which 262 persons were selected by multistage cluster sampling method. The instruments of the study included Borderline Symptom List by Bohus and colleagues (2007), InterpersonalDifficulties-47 by Pilkon is and colleagues (1996) and Internet Addiction by Young (1998). Data analysis with Structural Equation Modeling showed that the model fits well to the data and 43% of the variance of internet Addiction is due to the changes in the numbers of Borderline Personality Traits and interpersonal problems. Also, interpersonal difficulties mediated the relationship between Borderline Personality Traits and internet Addiction. It can be concluded that internet can be a social tool for meeting the needs of the individuals with Borderline Personality Traits.

Abstract:

Background: Although much research on patients with epilepsy (PWE) has focused on psychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety, and psychotic disorders, the relationship between epilepsy and Personality disorders has not been frequently studied. Objectives: The study aimed to evaluate Borderline Personality Traits in PWE. Materials & Methods: In this case-control study, we evaluated 211 PWE who were consecutively referred to 22 Bahman Hospital, Mashhad, Iran, in 2021. We also compared the patients with an age-matched and gender-matched control group. The Borderline Personality Traits were assessed by the second subscale of the schizotypal questionnaire (STB) which is known as the Borderline Personality scale questionnaire. Data were coded and analyzed by SPSS software, version 20. Results: Epilepsy group had significantly higher Borderline Personality features in comparison with the control group (P=0. 029). PWE had significantly higher scores in hopelessness (P=0. 017) and impulsivity factors (P=0. 046) on the STB questionnaire. Our results revealed that PWE who were married (P=0. 011) and who had epilepsy for more than 10 years, had significantly higher Borderline Personality Traits (P=0. 04). Conclusion: PWE are more likely to have Borderline Personality Traits. Therefore, it is important to screen epileptic patients to detect it earlier to avoid further consequences and its possible effects on therapeutic responses.

Abstract:

Objectives This study aims to examine the clinical symptoms and Personality Traits of inpatients with Borderline Personality disorder (BPD) in Iran. Additionally, it seeks to investigate differences in the prevalence of BPD symptoms, comorbid Personality disorders, and Personality Traits between male and female inpatients. Methods This is a cross-sectional study on 87 patients diagnosed with BPD hospitalized in three psychiatric hospitals in Tehran, Iran. The frequency of clinical symptoms and comorbidity with other Personality disorders were assessed using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 Screening Personality Questionnaire and the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 Personality Disorders. In addition, Personality Traits were evaluated using the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results The most common clinical symptoms were emotional swings (95. 4%), shifting self-image (95. 4%), and explosive anger (93. 1%), while paranoia/transient dissociation (59. 8%) had the lowest prevalence rate. Also, narcissistic (51%), paranoid (51%), and antisocial (33%) Personality disorders were the most common comorbid Personality disorders. There was no significant difference in BPD symptoms and comorbid Personality disorders between males and females. The attention-seeking trait was significantly higher in females (F(1, 85)=4. 44, P=0. 038), while grandiosity was significantly higher in males (F(1, 85) =5. 39, P=0. 023). Conclusion Emotional dysregulation is the main characteristic of hospitalized patients with BPD in Iran. The male and female BPD inpatients have similar comorbid Personality disorders and clinical symptoms.

Abstract:

Background and Objective: The relationship of Borderline Personality Traits with childhood teasing and traumatic experiences is a major risk factor in the development of Borderline Personality disorder (BPD) symptoms, nonetheless, this relationship is not fully understood. The present study aimed to provide further evidence on the role of childhood teasing, traumatic experiences, and other pathological Personality Traits, such as negative affectivity, antagonism, psychoticism, disinhibition, detachment, depression, anxiety, and stress symptom, in the development of Borderline Personality disorder, especially in Iranian non-clinical populations. Materials and Methods: A total of 385 college students were assessed by teasing questionnaire-revised (TQ-R), childhood trauma questionnaire (CTQ), Personality Inventory for DSM-5 Brief Form (PID-5-BF), the Borderline Personality scale (SIB), and the depression, anxiety, and stress scale (DASS-21). Results: Descriptive statistics, Pearson Correlations, and stepwise regression analysis statistics were conducted to examine the relationship of Borderline Personality Traits with childhood teasing and traumatic experiences. The current study supported the significant positive correlation of Borderline Personality disorder with PID-5-BF, such as negative affectivity, antagonism, psychoticism, disinhibition, detachment, depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms, as well as teasing and traumatic experiences in non-clinical individuals. Conclusions: As evidenced by the results of this study, childhood traumatic experiences have a prominent role to play in the development of Borderline Personality psychopathology.

Abstract:

Background and purpose: Emotions are constitutive elements of temperament. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between primary emotional Traits and symptoms of Borderline Personality disorder (BPD) and also the predicting role of these Traits in BPD symptoms. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out in Tehran, Iran 2017. The research population included 197 university students. They were recruited using convenience sampling based on the study inclusion/exclusion criteria. The participants completed the Persian version of Affective Neuroscience Personality Scale-2. 4 (ANPS 2. 4) and Borderline Personality Inventory (BPI). All statistical analyses were carried out in SPSS V16. Results: The findings showed a significant positive correlation between BPD symptoms and playfulness (r=0. 17, p=0. 001), anger (r=0. 32, p=0. 001), and sadness (r=0. 19, p=0. 001). We found a negative relationship between seeking and BPD symptoms (r=-0. 22, p=0. 001). It was also found that 28% of the total variance of BPD symptoms were explained by primary emotional Traits. Anger, playfulness, seeking, and sadness were significant predictors of BPD symptoms. Conclusion: This study confirmed emotional Traits of Personality. Findings also help to illustrate the possible emotional profiles of people with BPD symptoms. Hence, affective neuroscience approach could be used in diagnosis and treatment of BPD symptoms.
